Once more the Greenpeace flagship Rainbow Warrior toured the Italian
coast to scan and preserve Mediterranean sea health. The Mare Nostrum
hosts a wide biodiversity, unfortunately threaten by the eccessive exploitation of its resources mainly linked to intensive fishing. The aim of the association is to battle illegal fishing particularly the one made with the use of the dangerous Spadare, the fishing nets responsible for the killing of doplhins and other cetaceans, nets that are officially banished by the
European community yet are still used by a large number of fishermen.
Greenpeace is asking for the istitution of new seaside reserves and the
reinforcement of the Sancturay of the Cetaceans a triangle of sea closed
between
Corsica, Tuscany and the
Principality of Monaco.
Greenpeace is operative also in Florence, to join or receive info e-mail to Firenze@greenpeace.it or just check
